What is IPL Intense Pulsed LightWhy use intense pulsed light therapy?
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) is suitable for people who wish to achieve more even, flawless, younger-looking skin. It’s ideal for those who want to achieve a ‘no filter required’ look.
There is a huge difference in power and results between IPL laser devices. We only use the Lynton Lumina as it is a Medical grade. laser which is used in hospitals today. Medical grade IPL treatments are highly effective at improving moderate to mild signs of sun damage and photo-ageing. This IPL treatment creates a more youthful, flawless glowing appearance even without makeup. We recommend a course of 3-6 treatments to see the best results!
It creates a clearer and more even skin tone, manages acne breakouts, gets rid of thread veins and a reduction in redness. We also recommend that you get into a good skincare routine to help maintain the results of the treatment. After treatment, your skin will be slightly red. This normally takes a few hours to go down. During this time, try to keep the skin cool.
What is IPL?
IPL uses several different wavelengths of light. They work by targeting the blood supply to the sebaceous gland which reduces oil and sebum production which in turn reduces acne breakouts. They also help to stimulate collagen production within the skin which will help to strengthen and improve the texture of the skin. It will also help to reduce the redness associated with acne as the light will target the haemoglobin (blood) and cauterise it underneath the skin.
What happens at the Consultation?
During your consultation our practitioner will go through your medical history, assess your needs and make sure that you are suitable for treatment. We will then talk you through the treatment process and perform a small patch test area. The patch test are helps us to see how your skin will react to a full treatment and to determine the settings we need for a full treatment.
What If I’m Not Suitable?
If you are not suitable for IPL then we have other alternatives such as Micro-needling, Radio-frequency Micro-needling, laser resurfacing, cosmeceutical or medical skin care to name a few. We can also recommend supplements which will strengthen and treat the skin from within. IPL is only suitable for Fitzpatrick 1-3 as shown below.
How Will My Skin Look After Treatment?
Immediately after treatment, your skin will be slightly red. This normally takes a few hours to go down. During this time, try to keep the skin cool.
Before Your Treatment
Please arrive with a clean face and no make-up on the skin. No fake tan for 10 days before treatment. This treatment is strictly NOT suitable for anyone with a tan or has sun expsure in the last 6 weeks.
What Happens During My Treatment?
During your treatments, the hand piece will be placed on to the skin and a pulse of light will be directed into the skin. The hand piece is then moved across and repeated until the entire treatment area has been completed.
How Will My Skin Look After IPL Intense Pulsed Light?
Your skin may be slightly red after treatment, this usually goes down after a few hours. We always advise keeping the area clean and free of perfumed product and keep the area cool to minimise any after-effects.
Downtime & Recovery
The benefit of skin rejuvenation with IPL is the relatively small risk of adverse effects and very little “downtime” which enables you to return to your daily activities immediately.
Risks And Complications
Mild redness after treatment is normal and goes down within a few hours. Darker pigmentation spots tend to crust over and will flake away from the skin around a week after treatment.
